What's on the CD ROM and how do I find it?

The CD ROM has been broken down according to how you use FileMaker Pro. If you're a developer and interested in starting on FileMaker Pro projects, the Developer's Files is the place to begin. It is organized for easy access. If you're looking to start with a pre existing solution, open the Solutions folder on CD #2 and start browsing by category or industry. The FileMaker Solution Framework folder also contains excellent tools for getting started. It is included as a full relational database system. Great for jumping right in. The FileMaker Solution Framework is a suite of royalty-free files which you can modify and distribute for your own purposes. You will find the templates well designed and ready for easy modification. The set of files includes People, Invoices, Products and their supporting files. The system is quite robust and offers a highly extensible environment for any level of FileMaker Pro user.



ISO FM Magazine

This folder contains a single installer file which you should run to install the ISO Magazine Reader database and sixty back issues of the popular digital publication about FileMaker Pro. You will find hundreds of hands-on technique files starting with issue 21 and in both FileMaker Pro version 3/4 and 5 formats.

Contained within this folder are all the tools useful to development with FileMaker Pro. This folder, along with the ISO FileMaker Magazine, provide one of the largest collections of files ready to be mentally digested. The areas cover most every aspect of FileMaker Pro, including calculations, fields, searching, layout mode, using portals, printing tips, scripts, sorting, relationships and more.

Here you'll find a small collection of files which have been provided for your use without any charges or fees. The files range from simple to complex. However, all of the files are open and password free. Use these files along with the Techniques in the Techniques folder to better understand FileMaker Pro.

FileMaker Pro can be made to provide a wide variety of additional features with the addition of various plug-ins. Search through this folder to find a plug-in that offer the features you need in FileMaker Pro.


CD Tools

This folder stores the files used to uncompress the archives on the CD ROMS as well as software such as Adobe Acrobat for reading PDF files. The files for this Read Me are also contained here.

FileMaker Inc folder
Look inside this folder for information specific to using FileMaker Pro from FileMaker, Inc. Here you'll find updaters, information about joining the professional developer program FSA (FileMaker Solutions Alliance) and documentation about various features of FileMaker Pro. You'll also find a database of consultants who are proficient with FileMaker Pro.
