Uncompressing files from the CDs

There were two primary compression formats used for compressing the files on the CD ROMS. The two formats were .sit (Stuffit Expander) and .zip (Windows Zip). Along with these formats, files may be provided by authors as custom installers which will either be in a .sea (Self Expanding Archive) for Macintosh, an Install application for Macintosh or .exe (Executable) application for Windows.

You may already have some type of expansion program already installed on your computer. If you do not then copies have been provided on the CD #1.

With an expansion program installed you should be able to double-click a file archive and be able to extract the files to your location of choice.

Installing WinZip

If you do not already have an expansion program we have provided a demo copy of WinZip for expanding the archives. If you find you like using WinZip then register it at the WinZip website. There are two options for installing the software. You can do with from within the SEARCH_CD file or install manually.

Option #1:

Select the Install Uncompressing Tool (Win) from the Script menu or click the Install WinZip hyperlink in SEARCH_CD.

Option #2:

Manually run the installer from within Windows. You can find the .exe file in the CD TOOLS folder on the CD ROM. Look for the WinZip folder.

Extracting files

With the WinZip software installed you will be able to extract the files within the archives to any location you desire. The extract dialog should look similar to the one below if you are using WinZip.

Installing Aladdin Expander

There may be a rare occasion where you will need to have access to a Stuffit .sit file. We have provided an expansion program for this file format. Click the Install Stuffit hyperlink within the SEARCH_CD interface. The CD ROM will need to be in your CD Drive to install.
